Web Design II

Lecture 6: Presentation and In-Class Work

At the start of the class, students will be presenting their designs for simple game or interaction, with time for feedback. The remainder of the class will be dedicated to work on mid term assignments.

Home Work

Finalize mid-term project, to be presented in next week's class.

For our midterm we will be programming a simple game or interactive visual art piece. Your midterm assignment should:

  • Be a fully developed concept, that also demonstrates visual competence, and an understanding of user interaction design
  • Demonstrate an appropriate competence of Javascript skills learned to date
  • Include at least 3 forms of data inputs, that change the direction/logic sequences that are being performed in your application
    • At least two of these inputs must be user driven (e.g., text field entries, mouse events, etc.)
    • One input may be system driven (e.g., action taken after a certain time, reaching edge of canvas, etc.)

You will be graded in the following ways:

Area Description Weight
Concept Your project should have a fully developed concept, visually and conceptually. The user interactions selected are appropriate to the concept. Projects that demonstrate visual and conceptual excellence, and which have interactions that enhance and further the concept will achieve higher scores. 35%
Technical Approach Your project should apply a technical approach that is appropriate to meet the requirements of your concept (including the 3 forms of data inputs), and should appropriately use the Javascript concepts covered to date in class. You should be able to walk through and talk about various functions within your code and its intended actions. Projects exceeding this expectation will achieve higher scores. 40%
Technical Skills To meet the expected competence, your project should have clean CSS, and HTML, it should not be buggy, and you should have at 3 forms of data inputs. Projects exceeding this expectation will achieve higher scores. 25%

If our artists are not versed in technology, who will imagine what we can become, who will ask what we should not be?
